The second painting in my soul series, which I refer to as the Hero’s Journey collection, depicts a necessary decapitation of my ego from my body. The concept was first painted in 2019 the same day as Exorcism of Doubt but took much more time to finish, I completed it in 2021.
In Christianity this is called kenosis, or emptying of oneself. In Buddhism, anatta is the belief that human beings have no permanent personal self or soul. In learning to detach oneself from the persona, or ego, one learns to find freedom from suffering.
